Rambling on about Korean Politics

   I am feeling very embarrassed, uncomfortable or unsure about what is happening in my country, Korea. Why? It may be because of the political situation, here in Korea, which is throwing a weird shadow on everything. It feels like a difficult time for me to live here, somehow taking part in it, validating it or making a statement about it. Sometimes I want to get away from all kinds of political issues.

 

   It is hard to escape the politics here, however, on the TV and the internet. On the TV, the internet, and all Social Network Services, there were fierce arguments, debates, angry comments, all kinds of drama with strong opinions on both sides – those who are clearly against almost everything on the government policies and those who defend them. I am not able to express in words how ashamed I am about their compelling arguments on both sides. It feels like my country is in turmoil.

 

   There were things I could not manage to do or see in my life and I said “I will do it next time" – at the time it helped me deal with the disappointment of missing something important that I really wanted to participate in and experience. I would say “I will get it next time.” It’s true that things are bound to change over time, so I decided to cut off my interest with regard to the current political situation in Korea. I am going to stop watching, reading and listening to news about it if possible. I can’t see everything I want. I can’t deal with everything I want.

 

So, let it go.
